Weather on Møn
Climate and best time to visit. Monthly figures from DMI, season dates from the GeoCenter and museum, 2027 school holidays
The weather on Møn is a temperate Baltic climate: cool, frosty winters, late springs and summers with daily highs around 20 °C. The island lies in Denmark, south of Zealand, so the climate figures of the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) serve as a guide. July and August are the warmest, with a daily mean of 16.8 °C and an average daily high of 21.2 °C. May has the most sun. The island is called Møn, and the cliffs are Møns Klint.
Climate on Møn: figures by month
DMI publishes the 1991–2020 climate normals only for Denmark as a whole, not for individual places or for Møn. The table therefore shows the national figures from DMI Report 26-01 "Danmarks Klima 2025" (table 7, version of 3 July 2026). DMI itself describes the 1991–2020 normals as provisional and announces the final values for the end of 2026 (as of October 2026). Individual days on the east coast of Møn will differ, but the pattern is enough for planning.

Denmark, average 1991–2020 (DMI, provisional). For days with rain, DMI publishes counts only for 1961–1990 and other periods, so there is no column for them here.
The figures tell you a good deal. Frost is normal from December to March: January averages 15.3 days of frost, February 14.8 and March 12.5. Summer days above 25 °C are rare: 5.2 on average in July, 4.3 in August and 1.7 in June. Snow lies on about seven days a month in January and February (DMI, Denmark, 1991–2020).
Best time to visit Møn
The best time depends on what you plan to do on Møn. The opening times of the main sights and the school holiday dates set tighter limits than the weather does.

June to August: high season
In these months the daily highs in the DMI average are between 18.5 and 21.2 °C, with roughly 200 to 228 hours of sun a month. In 2026 the GeoCenter Møns Klint is open daily from 10:00 to 18:00 in high season, from 27 June to 9 August, and Møns Museum in Stege daily from 10:00 to 16:00 during the summer holidays (moensklint.dk and museerne.dk, as of October 2026). This is also the time with the most visitors. Book holiday homes and campsites early; more on that is on the page Holiday homes on Møn.
May, June and September: quieter and sunny
May has the most hours of sun of the year on average, but with a daily high of 15.6 °C the days are still cool. September still brings 17.2 °C and 143.5 hours of sun, with less holiday traffic. In 2026 the GeoCenter was open from 11:00 to 17:00 from 26 May to 26 June and from 29 August to 9 October, among other dates. Walkers will find good conditions in this period; the routes are on the page Hiking on Møn.
October: end of the season
October has the most rain at 83.4 mm and only 99.1 hours of sun. In 2026 the Danish autumn holidays fell on 10 to 18 October. After that the season winds down: Møns Museum closed on 18 October 2026, and from 19 to 30 October the GeoCenter is open only from 12:00 to 16:00. In autumn the beaches and forests suit better than the exhibitions; more on the page Beaches on Møn.
November to March: winter closure
The GeoCenter is closed from 31 October 2026 to 20 March 2027 (moensklint.dk, as of October 2026). The cliffs and the paths leading to them stay accessible, and the toilets at the GeoCenter are open daily from 06:00 to 22:00, according to the operator. The park at Liselund is open all year, daily from 07:00 to 22:00; the castle itself can only be seen on a guided tour in summer, in 2026 from 1 July to 30 September (liselundpark.dk). In winter the nights are long and dark: the Dark Sky Park Møn and Nyord then offers the best stargazing.
Møn in May
May is the sunniest month of the year: in the DMI average for Denmark it brings 236.6 hours of sunshine, a daily high of 15.6 °C and 47.4 mm of rain. For Møn, May is a month in which the offer changes from week to week. In October 2026 the GeoCenter, the museum and the bus operators had not yet announced their times for 2027. The 2026 column is a guide, not a promise for 2027.

Public holidays in Denmark in May 2027. Ascension Day falls on Thursday 6 May, Whit Sunday on 16 May and Whit Monday on 17 May. 1 May is not a public holiday in Denmark (norden.org, as of October 2026). In 2026 the GeoCenter opened at 10:00 instead of 11:00 on Ascension Day and Whitsun.
Early May. In 2026 the GeoCenter was still on the shorter hours of 11:00 to 17:00 at the beginning of May, and Møn Strandcamping opens on 3 May in 2027. From 26 May the hours were again 11:00 to 17:00 until 26 June in 2026; high season with 10:00 to 18:00 began on 27 June. May has the most sun on average for the country, and the paths at the cliff are open. You will find walks on the page Hiking on Møn and a three-day plan on the page Møn in 3 days.
Weather at Møns Klint
The cliffs lie on the east coast, directly on the Baltic, with no shelter from the wind. Pack a windproof and waterproof jacket even in summer; the packing list for the Camønoen long-distance trail recommends this too (museerne.dk). Beyond the weather there is the risk of collapses: according to Naturstyrelsen, chalk falls (klintskred) happen every year, most often in winter and spring. Observe the barriers; climbing the cliff away from the stairs and paths is forbidden. What to expect at the chalk cliffs is covered on their own page.
School holidays 2027
The holidays decide how busy Møn is. According to the holiday plan of Vordingborg Kommune, the Danish summer holidays in 2027 fall between 26 June and 8 August; the table for the 2027/28 school year gives 28 June to 9 August. Check the dates on vordingborg.dk before you book. The Danish autumn holidays run from 10 to 18 October in 2026 and from 16 to 24 October in 2027.
The German summer holidays 2027 according to the Kultusministerkonferenz (page last updated 9 October 2025):
| State | Summer holidays 2027 |
|---|---|
| Hamburg | 1 July to 11 August |
| Berlin and Brandenburg | 1 July to 14 August |
| Schleswig-Holstein | 3 July to 14 August |
| Mecklenburg-Vorpommern | 5 July to 14 August |
| Lower Saxony | 8 July to 18 August |
| North Rhine-Westphalia | 19 July to 31 August |
| Bavaria | 2 August to 13 September |
For Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Berlin the holidays largely coincide with the Danish ones. In North Rhine-Westphalia and Bavaria they start only in mid-July and at the beginning of August respectively, when the Danish holidays are nearly over. How to reach the island is explained on the page Getting to the island of Møn.
Baltic Sea water temperature
There is no monthly norm for the Baltic off Møn. On dmi.dk/havtemperatur DMI shows current readings and a forecast for the next 48 hours. For swimming, the signs at the beaches apply; beach tips are on the page Bathing on the island of Møn.

Day trip in bad weather
When it rains, the GeoCenter is the main attraction in season, together with Møns Museum in Stege until mid-October. A route for a day from the capital is described on the page Day trip from Copenhagen to Møn.

When is the best time to visit Møn?
For the cliffs, walking and long days, May to September is the time. May has the most sun at 236.6 hours, June to August are the warmest with daily highs of 18.5 to 21.2 °C, and September is still at 17.2 °C. All figures are DMI averages for Denmark, 1991–2020. In 2027 the Danish summer holidays run from the end of June to 8 or 9 August (Vordingborg Kommune), and the German ones, depending on the state, from the end of June to mid-September. There are no published monthly visitor figures, so the rule of thumb is May, June and September, outside the holidays.
