Places on Møn

Location and map

The island lies between Zealand and Falster. To the north the Ulvsund separates it from Zealand, to the west the Grønsund separates it from Falster. Until 2006 Møn was a municipality in its own right; since 2007 it has belonged to Vordingborg Municipality. The Dronning Alexandrines Bro at Kalvehave leads onto the island, and from Vordingborg to Stege it is about 28 km. How to get here from Germany or Copenhagen is on the page Getting to Møn.

The places at a glance

Stege

Stege is the main town, with a harbour, a museum and a shopping street. The Mølleporten is the only one of the three medieval town gates that survives, and Møns Museum shows the history of the island. In summer there are six Tuesday markets, from the last Tuesday in June to the first Tuesday in August. From Stege it is about 16.5 km to Klintholm Havn and about 20 km to the GeoCenter Møns Klint. Klintholm Havn

The fishing and yacht harbour in the south-east is the place closest to Møns Klint: about 7 km by road to the GeoCenter. There is a beach on either side of the harbour, plus restaurants, a fish smokehouse and boat trips to the chalk cliffs. More on the page Klintholm Havn.

Borre

The village lies in the east, about 11 km from Stege. It has a Romanesque brick church and megalithic tombs in the surrounding area. The postcode 4791 Borre covers the whole east, so it also appears in the addresses of the GeoCenter, of Liselund and of Klintholm Havn. More on the page Borre.

Keldby

Keldby is 4.7 km east of Stege. The church has wall paintings from three periods, and the youngest layer is by the Elmelunde Master. More on the page Keldby, and for the church in Elmelunde on the page Elmelunde Kirke.

Askeby and Hårbølle

In the south-west stands Fanefjord Kirke, also with paintings by the Elmelunde Master, and nearby the 100 m long Stone Age tomb Grønjægers Høj. Hårbølle is a small harbour village on the Grønsund with a beach, about 4 km from Askeby. There is no monastery in Askeby; the monastery of the same name stood in Sweden. Ulvshale

The peninsula north of Stege consists of beach ridges of sand, gravel and flint. The beach is wide and the water shallow, and the island of Nyord is reached via Ulvshale. More on the page Ulvshale.

Nyord

Nyord lies in the Smålandsfarvandet, measures 4.99 km² and has 33 inhabitants (1 January 2026). Since 1968 a causeway with a bridge has connected the island to the Ulvshale peninsula. There are bird meadows, a village and a historic post boat, and the island belongs to the Dark Sky Park Møn and Nyord. More on the page Nyord.

Råbylille and other places

On the south coast is the beach of Råbylille with shallow water, more on the page Råbylille Strand. Smaller places with their own page are Oddermose and Svensmarke. For the cliffs, Magleby is the nearest stop on bus line 667, and from there it is 5.5 km.

Getting to the places without a car

Bus 660R runs from Vordingborg to Stege. Line 667 runs all year from Stege to Klintholm Havn. The summer lines 678 (to the cliffs) and 663 (to Nyord) run in 2026 only from 29 March to 31 October (vordingborg.dk). You can find departure times on rejseplanen.dk.
