Beaches on Møn
The island's swimming beaches compared. Sand in the north and south, stones and fossils below Møns Klint
Møn has sandy beaches with shallow water on its north and south coasts: Ulvshale near Stege, Råbylille near Elmelunde, and Klintholm Havn and Hårbølle in the south-west. Below the chalk cliffs of Møns Klint, by contrast, lies a beach of flint stones and fossils that is not for swimming. The Friluftsrådet list of Blue Flags for 2026 includes no beach on the island (as of October 2026). This page sets the beaches side by side; practical advice on swimming is on the page Bathing on the island of Møn.

Details as of October 2026, from the operator and tourism websites of South Zealand and Møn and from Naturstyrelsen.
Ulvshale Strand
Ulvshale is on the north coast of Møn, on the east side of the peninsula of the same name near Stege (Ulvshalevej, 4780 Stege). Naturstyrelsen describes the beach as a stretch of white sand several kilometres long. The water is shallow and deepens only very gently, so the beach is considered child-friendly. The beach has toilets, an accessible toilet, a wheelchair ramp and a kiosk or café, plus a car park nearby. In summer the Container Beach Café sells ice cream, drinks and paninis, and first-aid equipment with a defibrillator is kept on the beach.
A tip from the nature guide: with an easterly wind you sometimes find amber here. The forest begins behind the beach, with the nature centre Ulvshalegård and the walking trails of the peninsula. Five marked routes of 1.5 to 4 km start at the nature centre and at the car park by the Nyord bridge. More about the place is on the page Ulvshale. If you want to sleep right by the water, the campsite Møn Strandcamping Ulvshale is close to the beach.
Nyord: a coast for walking only
On the neighbouring island of Nyord, neither Naturstyrelsen nor the tourism websites name a designated bathing beach. The coast is shallow, and Naturstyrelsen mentions a path that follows the shore from the village of Nyord By to the thought bench at Vesternæs. Nyord By is about 14 km from Stege. If you want sand and water for swimming, drive back from Nyord to Ulvshale. Everything about the island is on the page Nyord.
Råbylille Strand
Råbylille is a holiday home area on the south coast of east Møn, near Elmelunde. According to Visit Denmark the beach is child-friendly, with fine sand, about 300 m long and 10 to 15 m wide. A large embankment of stones runs along the beach. It faces south and gets sun all day, and the Baltic here is shallow (Wikipedia). The official page mentions no toilets, kiosk or car park, so bring food and water yourself. More about the place is on the page Råbylille Strand.
Klintholm Havn: two beaches at the harbour
Next to the harbour at Klintholm (Thyravej 30, 4791 Borre) there are two sandy beaches. The western one is considered especially child-friendly, because you have to wade a long way out before the water gets deep. The eastern one is about 800 m further on. At the beach by the harbour there are toilets, a kiosk or café, a wheelchair ramp and car parking nearby. Many boats call at the harbour in summer; more on the page Klintholm Havn. From here it is about 7 km by road to the GeoCenter Møns Klint, and a walk or bike ride along the coastal forest also leads there.

Hårbølle Strand
Hårbølle is in the south-west of Møn on the Grønsund. The beach has fine sand and dunes and is wide; from the car park at the harbour (Hårbølle Bro, 4792 Askeby) it is a short walk to the water. It is good for sandcastles and for people who like peace and quiet. The coast is also known as a snorkelling spot for experienced snorkellers: under water lie the remains of a wreck, anchors and finds from two old boats, and you can see flatfish and gobies. Check wind and current beforehand, never swim alone and keep your partner in sight (Visit Denmark). The nature campsite Møn Camping Hårbølle Strand is right on the beach. The place itself is on the page Hårbølle.
Rytzebæk Strand
Rytzebæk is on the south coast; the address is Rytsebækvej 31, near Stege. The Visit Denmark page describes the beach as suitable for families: access to the water is easy, there are many stones along the shore, and the sea bed is mostly fine sand. Water shoes are therefore a good idea. A car park is nearby. About 1 km on foot or by bike from the beach (to the right) is the Strandskoven, a beech wood that runs down to the shore with a view across Hjelm Bugt to the Høje Møn. If you are bringing a surfboard or kite, you will find advice on the page Kite surfing on the island of Møn.
Bogø: Skåninge Bro Strand
The small island of Bogø lies between Møn and Falster. On its north coast, at the little harbour by Skåninge Bro (Skåningevej 11, 4793 Bogø By), there is a quiet lagoon with a bathing jetty. The sea bed is a mixture of fine sand and pebbles, and the water deepens evenly; 100 to 200 m from the shore it is still less than 2 m deep. There are toilets in the sailing club buildings, picnic tables and benches at the harbour and a large meadow serving as a car park at the end of the road (Visit Denmark). If you come to Møn over the Farø bridges you drive across Bogø anyway; the journey is described on the page Getting to the island of Møn.
Møns Klint: the beach below the chalk cliffs
The beach below the cliffs is a beach for walking. Naturstyrelsen describes it as having flint stones, boulders, fossils and a little sand, and names no bathing spot. You reach it by five staircases; the Maglevandstrappen at the GeoCenter has 497 steps, the Grårygtrappen 468. The cliffs are up to 128 m high and around 6 km long. Climbing the wall away from the stairs and paths is forbidden, because the cliff is in motion. Between the staircases you can walk along the beach.

For collecting fossils the GeoCenter offers guided tours: in 2026 twice a day at 11:00 and 14:00, lasting about an hour, at 25 DKK per person on top of admission. The tour is not suitable for people with walking difficulties, wheelchair users or pregnant women. The fossil route on foot is 2.3 km long and takes 1 hour 15 minutes. More about the cliffs is on the page Møns Klint and about the exhibition at the GeoCenter Møns Klint.
Admission, parking and getting there
In 2026 the GeoCenter costs 155 DKK for adults and 100 DKK for children aged 3 to 11; under 3s go free, and you save 10 DKK per ticket online. Parking at the GeoCenter costs 45 DKK; according to Naturstyrelsen you can park free at Camp Møns Klint and at Liselund. The GeoCenter is closed from 31 October 2026 to 20 March 2027 (moensklint.dk, as of October 2026). The official pages do not say clearly whether the stairs and the beach can be reached without a GeoCenter ticket; if in doubt, ask at geocenter@moensklint.dk. From Stege it is about 21 km by road (October 2026).
Busene Have
Busene Have is on the south-east coast and is not a bathing beach but a stretch of coast for walking. Naturstyrelsen mentions grave finds there. If you are planning a longer walk from Klintholm Havn, you will find routes on the page Hiking on Møn.
The best beach on the island of Møn
Ulvshale is often named as the best beach on the island of Møn, but there is no single best beach. Which one suits depends on the weather and the group:
- With small children: Ulvshale (shallow water, toilets, kiosk, wheelchair ramp) or the western beach at Klintholm Havn.
- With a harbour and food nearby: Klintholm Havn, which has restaurants and cafés (see Restaurants on Møn).
- For peace and short walks: Hårbølle or Råbylille.
- For snorkelling: Hårbølle, for experienced snorkellers only.
- For fossils: the beach below Møns Klint, not for swimming.
- With children who just want to splash: Skåninge Bro on Bogø with its bathing jetty.
Which beaches suit the weather best is shown on the page Weather and best time to visit.
Blue Flag 2026
Older texts name the Blue Flag for Ulvshale, Hårbølle and Klintholm. The official overview "Blå Flag og Badepunkt 2026" from Friluftsrådet, however, lists no beach in Vordingborg Kommune, so Møn does not appear there (as of October 2026). The tourism websites of South Zealand and Møn also still show a flag symbol for some individual beaches. Do not plan around the flag; follow the signs and notices of Vordingborg Kommune on the beach.
Dogs on the beach
According to Naturstyrelsen, dogs must be on a lead on the beach from 1 April to 30 September. From 1 October to 31 March they may run free on a number of Danish beaches, though not everywhere, so watch for the signs. For the Ulvshale and Nyord area Naturstyrelsen says dogs are welcome on a lead, and the same applies at Møns Klint; only guide dogs are allowed into the GeoCenter. Holiday homes that allow dogs are listed on the page Holiday home with a dog on Møn.
Photos of Møns Klint and the beaches
If you want to take photos of Møns Klint in Denmark, there are two viewpoints: from above and from below. At the GeoCenter a 267 m walkway leads to several viewing points over the edge, also suitable for wheelchairs, walking frames and pushchairs. From below, on the fossil beach, you stand in front of the chalk wall, which rises up to 128 m. For a preview, the page Møns Klint has several pictures; the GeoCenter also runs a webcam on moensklint.dk. For photos of the sandy beaches, Ulvshale and Hårbølle are good choices, as both beaches are wide. The places on the island are listed on the page Places on the island of Møn.
