Møn with children
Ideas for families on the island. Hunting for fossils, shallow beaches, bike routes for families and what to do in the rain
Møn with children means above all hunting for fossils on the beach below the chalk cliffs, watching dinosaur films in 3D at the GeoCenter Møns Klint and swimming at shallow sandy beaches. On top of that there are two family bike routes from Stege and playgrounds at the harbours. Most of the indoor attractions are seasonal; the GeoCenter closes on 31 October 2026 until 20 March 2027 (as of October 2026). The tips below are sorted by age group and weather, and the beach list with all the details is on the page Beaches on Møn.

Møns Klint with children
The chalk cliffs are the biggest draw on the island. The way to the beach is down stairs: the Maglevandstrappen at the GeoCenter has 497 steps, the Grårygtrappen 468, and there are five staircases in all (Naturstyrelsen). The climb back up takes effort, so plan breaks. If you have a pushchair or a walking frame, use the 267 m walkway at the GeoCenter with several viewing points. More about the cliffs is on the page Møns Klint.

Hunting for fossils
Below the cliffs lie sea urchins, belemnites and other finds from the chalk sea. The GeoCenter runs guided tours there: in 2026 twice a day at 11:00 and 14:00, lasting about an hour, at 25 DKK per person plus admission. The meeting point is the playground by the blue flags, five minutes before the start. The tour has no minimum age but is not suitable for people with walking difficulties, wheelchair users or pregnant women; it is mostly given in Danish and English, sometimes in German. If you prefer to search on your own, walk the fossil route: 2.3 km, 1 hour 15 minutes, on the beach and in the forest. Do not stay directly under the cliff face, as the cliff is in motion.
In the GeoCenter
The GeoCenter has an exhibition on the history of the Earth, a 3D cinema and virtual reality stations. Admission to the 3D cinema is included in the ticket, and a film lasts 20 or 40 minutes depending on the title; T. Rex and Walking with Dinosaurs are among those shown. In school holidays and on public holidays a workshop opens where children can, for example, build an insect hotel or make stone animals; the activities are included in the ticket.

For older children there is climbing: the tree climbing course is from age 6, the rope course from age 8 and 135 cm, and the cable car from age 10 and 145 cm. It costs 25 DKK per person plus admission and runs only on selected days (in 2026 between Easter and autumn, mostly 12:00 to 16:00). The guided mountain bike tour is from age 12. The times for 2027 were not yet on the website in October 2026. More about the exhibition is on the page GeoCenter Møns Klint.
Admission for families
Adults pay 155 DKK, children aged 3 to 11 pay 100 DKK, and children under 3 pay nothing. For two adults and two children that comes to 510 DKK; you save 10 DKK per ticket online. Parking costs 45 DKK (moensklint.dk, as of October 2026). You can park free at Camp Møns Klint and at Liselund.
Beaches for children
Møn has shallow sandy beaches where children can wade a long way out. Ulvshale on the north coast is often named the best family beach on the island of Møn: the water deepens only gently, and there are toilets, a kiosk and a wheelchair ramp. West of the harbour at Klintholm Havn, too, you have to wade out a long way before the water gets deep. Råbylille on the south coast is a 300 m beach of fine sand. On Bogø, at Skåninge Bro, there is a quiet lagoon with a bathing jetty, where the water is still less than 2 m deep 100 to 200 m from the shore. At Ulvshale, first-aid equipment with a defibrillator is kept on the beach. The fossil beach below Møns Klint has no bathing spot. How swimming works in practice is explained on the page Bathing on the island of Møn; the beach list compares all the places. Dogs must be on a lead on the beach from 1 April to 30 September.
By bike: family routes
Two of the three panorama bike routes are described as family routes. Route 422 is 29 km long and runs from Stege via Ulvshale to Nyord; route 423 is 21 km long and follows quiet roads around Stege Nor, with some ups and downs. Both can be joined at any point. Route 421 through the Klinteskov is very hilly and better suited to experienced cyclists. You can hire bikes at Fri BikeShop in Stege (Storegade 91), including children's bikes, child seats and a trailer for two children; ask the hire shop for prices and times. All the routes are on the page Panorama bike routes.
Animals and farm
The farm Møn Is (Pollerup Hovgård, Hovgårdsvej 4, Stege) has, by its own account, about 160 organic dairy cows and its own ice cream dairy. In the farm shop you can fill your own bottle with milk; the operator's website gives 16 DKK per litre plus packaging (accessed October 2026). There is also ice cream, cold drinks, cheese and delicatessen goods. Opening times are on moen-is.dk under "Åbningstider"; they change with the season. In the summer half-year the farm café Helles Have in Keldby is open (Klintevej 42), with a large garden, hens and ice cream made from seasonal berries; the last cake table in 2026 was on 13 September. More about horses and riding is on the page Riding on Møn.
Playgrounds
These playgrounds are confirmed: in the middle of Klintholm Havn, at the harbour in Stege and at the harbour on Bogø (Grønsundvej 595). At the GeoCenter there is a playground by the blue flags. The campsite Keldby Camping Møn (Pollerupvej 3, Stege) advertises playgrounds, trampolines, mini golf and beach volleyball; ask there whether day visitors may use them. According to Visit Denmark, Møn Golf Resort Præstekilde (Klintevej 116) offers mini golf, a driving range and a par-3 course that is open to everyone. More places are on the pages Klintholm Havn and Stege.
A rainy day on Møn
On a rainy day the GeoCenter is the first address: 3D cinema, exhibition, virtual reality and, in the holidays, the workshop. In Stege, Møns Museum shows its collection in the Empiregaarden and the Mølleporten; children and young people under 18 get in free, and adults pay 65 DKK (museerne.dk). The 2026 season ran from 28 March to 18 October, Tuesday to Saturday from 11:00 to 14:00 and daily from 10:00 to 16:00 in the summer holidays. If you come in the winter half-year, you will find the GeoCenter closed. That leaves the forest, the beach and the holiday home; the park at Liselund is freely open daily from 07:00 to 22:00, with more on the page Liselund Castle.
A week with children
The plan assumes two adults and two children aged 6 and 9 who stay for a week in a holiday home in summer 2027. The best place for the holiday home is Borre, Klintholm Havn or Ulvshale, so that the beach and the cliffs are close. In October 2026 the 2027 opening times for the GeoCenter and the museum were not yet fixed; the prices below are those of 2026.
| Day | Programme | If it rains | Cost on site |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Arrival, harbour in Stege with playground, Mølleporten | Møns Museum with Mølleporten, children free | 160 DKK |
| 2 | Beach at Ulvshale, shallow water, kiosk | Postpone the bike ride, farm shop at Møn Is | 0 DKK |
| 3 | Møns Klint: fossil tour at 11:00 or 14:00, beach below the cliff | GeoCenter with exhibition and 3D cinema | 835 DKK |
| 4 | Bike ride on route 423 around Stege Nor, 21 km, bikes hired in Stege | Churches in Elmelunde and Keldby with wall paintings, daily 09:00 to 20:00 | 0 DKK |
| 5 | Spare day for rain: second visit to the GeoCenter, in sun tree climbing on one of the selected days | Virtual reality and workshop at the GeoCenter | 45 DKK |
| 6 | Nyord: bee trail, bird tower, village, ice cream at Café Noorbohandelen | Move Nyord to a dry day | 0 DKK |
| 7 | Beach and playground in Klintholm Havn, departure | Café and shop Ålehuset at the harbour | 0 DKK |
The GeoCenter week ticket is valid for seven days from the first visit and pays off from the second visit: two adults and two children aged 3 to 11 pay 690 DKK (2 x 200 DKK and 2 x 145 DKK) instead of 1,020 DKK for two single visits (moensklint.dk, as of October 2026). The plan adds up like this:
| Item | Calculation | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| GeoCenter, week ticket | 2 x 200 DKK and 2 x 145 DKK | 690 DKK |
| Parking at the GeoCenter, two visits | 2 x 45 DKK | 90 DKK |
| Fossil tour | 4 x 25 DKK | 100 DKK |
| Møns Museum with Mølleporten | 2 x 65 DKK, children under 18 free | 130 DKK |
| Parking in Stege at the museum | 30 DKK for 24 hours | 30 DKK |
| Total on site | 1,040 DKK |
At an exchange rate of about 7.5 DKK to the euro, that is around €140. Bike hire, food and electricity in the holiday home come on top; the businesses give their own prices. Parking at Liselund and at Camp Møns Klint is free (Naturstyrelsen), and the park at Liselund has no admission charge.
For the ferry, the car price includes up to nine people. On Rostock–Gedser two single trips at the Low Price fare cost from €65 each (car up to 6 m, online, as of October 2026), and the weekend ticket from Friday to Sunday from €119. Puttgarden–Rødby cannot currently be booked for summer 2027, only until 31 January 2027 (as of 15 October 2026). More on fares and return tickets is on the page Getting to the island of Møn.
Eating out with children
At Café Møns Klint by the GeoCenter there are frikadeller, salads and apple tart, and at the ice cream hatch on the terrace soft ice cream and ice cream made to an old recipe in 18 flavours. The café has two menus: one for 28 March to 26 June and 29 August to 30 October 2026, and one for the summer, 27 June to 28 August (cafemoensklint.dk). More places, sorted by location, are on the page Restaurants on Møn.

Holiday homes and camping for families
With children a holiday home with its own kitchen is worthwhile, because you do not have to plan every meal in a restaurant. You will find all the houses on the page Holiday homes on Møn, campsites on the page Camping on Møn, and an overview of all types on Accommodation on Møn.

FAQ
Where can families find child-friendly outdoor activities in Denmark?
On Møn, for example, at Møns Klint (fossils on the beach, a climbing course at the GeoCenter), on the shallow sandy beaches at Ulvshale and Klintholm Havn, and on the family bike routes 422 and 423 from Stege. The activities at the GeoCenter run from Easter to the end of October.
Is Møns Klint doable with children?
Yes. The Maglevandstrappen staircase has 497 steps and the Grårygtrappen 468; the climb back up takes effort, and a pushchair cannot go down. For pushchairs and walking frames there is a 267 m walkway at the GeoCenter with several viewing points. The guided fossil hunt has no minimum age but is not suitable for people with walking difficulties.
How much does the GeoCenter Møns Klint cost for a family with two children?
In 2026 two adults and two children aged 3 to 11 pay 510 DKK together (2 x 155 DKK and 2 x 100 DKK). Online you save 10 DKK per ticket, so 40 DKK on four tickets. The week ticket for all four costs 690 DKK and is valid for seven days from the first visit. Children under 3 go free, and fossil hunting costs 25 DKK extra per person (moensklint.dk, as of October 2026).
What can you do with children on Møn on a rainy day?
The GeoCenter has a 3D cinema (included in the ticket), virtual reality, an exhibition and, in the holidays, a children's workshop. In Stege, Møns Museum shows its collection; admission is free under 18. Both are seasonal: the GeoCenter until 30 October 2026, the museum until 18 October 2026 (as of October 2026).
Which beaches on Møn are suitable for children?
Ulvshale on the north coast with shallow water, toilets and a kiosk, the beach west of the harbour at Klintholm Havn, and Råbylille on the south coast. On Bogø there is a small lagoon with a bathing jetty at Skåninge Bro. The beach below Møns Klint is a fossil beach with no bathing spot.
From what age can children climb and ride the cable car at the GeoCenter?
The tree climbing course is from age 6, the rope course from age 8 and at least 135 cm tall, and the cable car from age 10 and at least 145 cm. The activity costs 25 DKK per person plus admission and in 2026 runs only on selected days (GeoCenter, as of October 2026).
How much is admission for children at Møns Museum in Stege?
Children and young people under 18 get in free with a paying adult. Adults pay 65 DKK, including the Mølleporten. The 2026 season ran from 28 March to 18 October (museerne.dk).
Can I visit Møn with children aged 2 and 4?
Yes. At the GeoCenter children under 3 go free, and a pushchair or wheelchair can be borrowed there at no charge. Shallow beaches such as Ulvshale and Klintholm Havn are a good choice. The staircase at the cliffs takes strength, and for the panorama bike route 423 you need a bike with a child seat, which you can hire in Stege.
